BPO Life Synonymous with Coffee

BPO life has become nearly synonymous with coffee, which has become the most popular additive that perks up the human brain. Working from evening to morning and not the other way around as is the norm, goes against the human body's biorhythm and normal work processes.

Adrenaline secretion slows down as the day wears on and as sleepiness creeps in. It is largely adrenaline that sharpens the senses and makes the body active. This is where coffee comes in.

Coffee is all caffeine which is a stimulant and, according to studies, an "unknown chemical agent" which induces the production of two (2) stimulating hormones: adrenaline and cortisone

Studies abound about the effects of coffee on health! Higher doses of caffeine induce negative effects such as anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, and tachycardia. The situation in the BPO landscape is a potential cause for worry. Due to the odd working hours and the rigors and stresses of the job, agents normally drink coffee excessively to maintain FULLY-AWAKE, FULLY-ALERT status. Too much coffee drinking may yield the opposite result, with employees ultimately paying the price.

HCI-CMD is the answer to the BPO dilemma where coffee intake and productivity issues are concerned. Coffee lovers can always opt for healthy lifestyle. Atleast 3-5 drops of HCI-CMD per coffee serving promotes mental wellness, improves blood circulation, increases energy, and protects the liver and the immune system. What's more, HCI-CMD intake helps prevent diseases - something which is exactly at the core of concerns of the BPO industry's productivity and sustainability.

Cancer-Fighting Minerals

A cancer develops when cells undergo an abnormal change and begin to grow and spread within the body. These abnormal cells then grow into tumors that can be benign or malignant. Cancers can occur at any age. Seventy-five percent of cancer patients in the Philippines are 50 years old and above while 3.2 percent belong to the pediatric age bracket (0 to 14 years).

In February 2010, the World Health Organization predicted that the number of cancer deaths worldwide will increase from 7.6 million to 17 million deaths in 2030. Thirty percent of cancers can be prevented by avoiding smoking, having regular exercise, and eating the right diet. Unfortunately, cancer still ranked third in the list of leading causes of death in the country in 2010. Listed below are the top causes of cancer deaths in the Philippines for 2010:
  • Breast cancer. The most common cancer in the country with 16 percent of a total of 50,000 cases resulting in death. The disease has also become the leading cause of cancer for Filipino women.
  • Lung cancer. The leading cause of cancer for Filipino men. It was the leading cause of cancer deaths in the country before it was replaced by breast cancer. Meanwhile, the Philippine Cancer Society expressed concern over the rise in lung cancer incidences among Filipino women.
  • Liver cancer. Doctors attribute this to the fact that chronic hepatitis B affects 10 to 12 percent of all Filipinos. Chronic hepatitis B causes cirrhosis of the liver which is a major risk factor of liver cancer.
  • Cervical cancer. It is estimated that 12 Filipinas die of cervical cancer each day with 6,000 cases being diagnosed each year. This type of cancer is common among women from age 30 to 55. Twenty-two in 100,000 women will get cervical cancer and only 44 percent of this number will survive the disease.
  • Colon cancer. Occurs when abnormal cells develop in the large intestine. It is best detected early through fecal occult blood test and colonoscopy. Among Filipino personalities who died of the disease are Corazon C. Aquino, Chat Silayan, Rio Diaz, Helen Vela, and veteran actor Charlie Davao.
  • Thyroid cancer. Thyroid cancer is more common in women than in men. In fact, it is the most common cancer for women at age 15 to 24. Risk factors include family history, exposure to radiation, and not having enough iodine in the diet.
  • Rectal cancer. Is caused by cancer cells that grow in the last 15 centimeters of the colon. These cancer cells become deadly once they travel through the bloodstream and into the other internal organs such as the liver. A diet rich in red meat and processed meats, lack of exercise, obesity, smoking, type-2 diabetes, and alcoholism is found to cause the disease.
  • Ovarian cancer. The 5th most common cancer among women. It is considered a “silent killer” as it is usually detected when the cancer cells have already spread to other organs such as the lungs and the liver.
  • Prostate cancer. After lung cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer for men. It develops in 19 out of every 100,000 Filipinos.
  • Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the lymphoid tissues such as the lymph nodes or the spleen. Patients with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma have a lower survival rate (63%) compared to patients with Hodgkin’s lymphoma (90%).
5 Minerals for Cancer Prevention and Cure
  1. Calcium: A proven protector against colon cancer, this mineral is integral for maintaining the health of bones and teeth, blood clotting, and cellular metabolism.
  2. Iodine: Helps protect the body from breast cancer and  is required for energy and the growth and repair of healthy tissues.
  3. Magnesium: This mineral protects against cancer in general, maintains the pH balance of the blood, as well as aids the formation of your body’s genetic material–RNA and DNA.  While damaged genetic material can put you at risk for cancer, magnesium helps with the repair work.
  4. Selenium: This mineral helps the body manufacture glutathione, an enzyme required for proper detoxification of the body.  Because toxic build-up in the body is linked to cancer, assisting your body with its natural, ongoing detoxification processes helps lessen your risk of cancer.  In research, low dietary levels of selenium have been correlated with higher cancer incidence.  Supplementation with selenium is a valuable cancer prevention tool.
  5. Zinc: A powerful protective agent against prostate cancer, this mineral is also necessary for the formation of RNA and DNA and a healthy immune system.  And, you guessed it:  a healthy immune system is better able to kill cancer cells.
